Lunch in Chicago

Thanks for a gift from a friend and the gift of babysitting, our family of 6 (as in without Lis) went to the city today!  I (Cindy) had not had a REAL hair cut for almost a year – since Aldan Union Missionary Conference LAST year; so that was at the top of the list.  Next on the agenda was lunch.  Everyone agreed on American food that was NOT fast food.  Chicago Grill.  Pizzeria Uno style pizza, ribs, YUM!!  Quote of the day: “It’s when I look at our food that I’m proud to be an American!”  It was Gooood with a capital G.

As we sat, chillin’- I’m convinced they were trying to match the outdoor temps in Chicago with their air-conditioning – waiting for our food, we were talking about a friend’s Facebook status.  It was something about being warm – “76 and sunny.”  Not one but TWO of our kids separately said, “76?  THAT’s not warm!”  As I type it’s 75 degrees at 9am on a chilly morning.

We sat listening to music in English – The Commodores, Tom Petty, Kiss (well, ya can’t have everything).  The food was amazing, and we were stuffed, but they had this little All-American dessert that we really wanted to try.  So we got one.  A mini.  For the 4 kids to share… and I got a bite.  We’re not sure why, but a whole row of servers were standing right behind our table watching.  Yeah.  That was when I dropped my drink on the way out the door.  OH MY GOODNESS!!  Like we didn’t stand out enough already.  At least it was a Styrofoam cup.

Now we’re on the way home.  Road repairs.  On the bright side, they’re doing it right!  They’re replacing sections of road instead of just filling holes with patches that go right back to being holes one rain later.  Makes for slow-going, but we’ll be home in plenty of time, energized for the next 2 months…

#1 – I’m sweating thinking about the temperatures there this summer. Why won’t God send us to Alaska during the summer? Have you guys considered a move? Remember the TV show “Northern Exposure?” Seems worth considering. Just sayin’.

#2 – What do you have against KISS? My favorite rock band growing up.I even sported the rub-on tattoos in elementary school that came with the Alive II album. After all, “God gave rock & roll to you.” Shoot, even Petra covered that song. I feel better now. One skeleton out of the closet. 🙂
